In the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee held recently in New Delhi, 24 new sites have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, out of which 19 are cultural, 4 natural and 1 mixed category. In this, Moidam of Assam became the 43rd World Heritage Site of India.

2. Q&A. A bench of 7 judges of the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict with a majority of 6:1 regarding the quota in the SC/ST (Scheduled Caste/Tribe) quota.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said – By creating a new sub-category within the SC/ST category, a separate quota can be given to the most backward. That is, now the state governments will have the right to decide the quota on the basis of backwardness of the castes from the quota reserved for all the communities included in the SC/ST category. At the same time, Justice Gavai said, apply the creamy layer to SC/ST as well. It needs to be constitutionally mandatory.
